Youth Fellowship Thanks You

Thank-YouWe appreciate all who came out to support our Youth Fundraiser last weekend. $624 was raised at our Breakfast last Saturday. In addition $679 was raised for World Vision in the 30 hour famine. On behalf of the Youth Fellowship we thank our members and friends of Christ Church for their generous support.

We returned to our newly refurbished Sanctuary on Sunday, March 9th. Many thanks to all those in our orchestra who played for our first Opening Exercise of 2014. In worship, we welcomed The Rev. David Guthrie, PEC President as our guest preacher in worship as we celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

We conclude the year 2013 with a Holy Communion service in worship on Sunday, December 29th. This will be our last worship service not only for the year 2013 but also for a few months in our Sanctuary. Work begins on our maintenance projects this Monday, December 30th. We hope you will make plans to join us!

Please make plans to join us for worship on Sunday, December 15th  Our Children’s Program that was originally scheduled for worship on December 8th will be taking place. Our youth (pictured to the left at a recent dress rehearsal) have been working very hard on this program which is called, “And He Comes!” This was written by Cyndy and Kiley Smith and will be performed by our Youth Sunday school classes.

Our Youth will be preparing a wonderful lunch for us to enjoy this Sunday following morning worship. Baked Spaghetti (including Vegetarian option) along with Salad will be served. In addition we will recognize the birthdays of our church members for the months of October and November by having a special dessert in their honor. We hope you will make plans to attend!

Church Interiors has completed their work in our Fellowship Building. Our Stainless Steel countertop has been installed and we are ready for our Anniversary Weekend Celebration that begins with our Fall Festival and Yard Sale Saturday followed by our special lunch on Sunday following worship. Vacation Bible School Underway!

Mission Camp Concludes

Mission Camp at Christ Church has come to a conclusion today.  The youth of Christ Church have given to our congregation and the West Salem community a labyrinth that they built this week on our church campus. We plan to have a special dedication service in August. Many thanks to the youth and our adult volunteers who helped make this project possible. Not only do we appreciate this gift but the gift of those who gave of their  time and talents this past week!

A great day was had by all who attended our Spring Fling on April 21st. Many thanks to all the youth and adult volunteers and those who came out to offer their support. Over $1,000 was raised for our youth. Congratulations!

YOUTH RETREAT

YOUTH RETREAT AT LAKE JUNALUSKA

The Annual Youth Retreat will be at Brookside Lodge at Lake Junaluska from May 3-5.  Reservations are $10 per family.Join the group for a weekend of family and fellowship in Western NC.

Easter Sunrise Service

The Easter Sunrise Service (241st) begins at 6:30 AM in Old Salem. This year’s service will be officiated by The Rev. John Jackman, minister of Trinity Moravian Church. A radio broadcast of the service will also be carried by WSJS radio beginning at 6:30 AM.

Helping to Fight Hunger

Youth from Christ and Calvary Moravian gathered together to help raise funds for World Vision through participation in the 30 hour famine. Every year, hundreds of thousands of students in the U.S. and around the world unite to do the Famine. They learn about hunger, raise funds to help the hungry, and then go hungry themselves. Many thanks to those church members who helped support this worthy cause with your contributions!

New Meeting Space in the Church Office

New meeting space has been created in the Church Offices of Christ Church! We have brought a conference table out of storage and have created a great meeting space in the room where our church copying machine is located. If any of our church groups would prefer to meet in a smaller space (for 12 people or less) rather than reserving the Fellowship Building, please feel free to contact the church office for details about how to reserve this space. Many thanks to Wayne Walker, John Chitty, NT Russell and Jeff Glance for assisting with this project.

New Ministry Begins at Christ Church

Contact the Church Office for more details!

Thanks to the generous contribution of a church member who wishes to remain anonymous, we have upgraded our sound system!  We are no longer recording worship services on cassettes but on a digital media recorder. Following an editing process, these worship services are now available to church members on a compact disc (CD). We plan to deliver these CD’s to our members who are no longer able to attend worship and make available copies to any members by request. Simply contact the Church Office and a copy will be provided to you. Our first recording that will be available will be on Sunday, December 9th.

If you need to reach the Church office you can call our main number (336-722-2007) and this provides you the option to leave a general message.  You will also be given different phone numbers to call  to leave a voice mail directly with our Administrative Assistant or the Pastor. Those direct line phone numbers are listed below:

Whenever you leave a voice mail message on the Administrative Assistant or Pastor’s direct line, an automatic email is sent to their email address which includes a recording of your message. We hope you will take advantage of this new technology which we hope will make our office and your ability to contact us even more efficient!

Moravian Festival Recap

Many thanks to those who ventured out to the Moravian Festival on Saturday from Christ Church. We had several members who participated in the 5K challenge, volunteered at our church booth and came out to support our Grateful Choir performance. Due to the inclement weather, the Grateful Choir performance was moved indoors and they did an outstanding job! Thank you again for all your support. Church Picnic and Ice Cream Social Recap

A great crowd gathered together Sunday afternoon for our annual Church Picnic and Ice Cream Social on the lawn.  We enjoyed wonderful music from our Grateful Choir and a wonderful catered meal from Mountain Fried Chicken along with Homemade Ice Cream and dessert made by our members. Many thanks to our Youth Fellowship for helping to set up and for our members of our Christian Education Committee for planning this event along with cleaning up.
